Born in Paris in 1928 erwitt spent his childhood in Milan, then emigrated to the US via France with his family in 1939. As a teenager Elliot had developed a interest in photography and started to work in a commercial dark room before experimenting photography at Los Angeles City College. In 1948, he moved to New York and exchanged work for classes in film at the new school for social research, in 1953 Erwitt joined Magnum Photos and worked as a freelance photographer for illustrated magazines such as LIFE, Coller’s Look and Holiday. After that in 1960 Erwitt became Magnum’s president and reigned for 3 years before he worked for several documentaries In 1970’s and then produced eighteen comedy films for HBO in the 1980’s.
