Photojournalism

What Is Photo journalism?

Photojournalism is a news story told mainly through pictures with little or no text. An example of photojournalism is an account of a car accident told through ten photos, each with a short caption. A form of journalism in which a story is told primarily through photographs and other images. The images are normally black and white to add more effect. Photojournalism is a particular form of journalism (the collecting, editing and presenting of news material for publication or broadcast) that employs images in order to tell a news story.

Centered around the 2011 Libyan Revolution, Libyan Sugar is a road trip through a war zone, detailed through photographs, journal entries, and written communication with family and colleagues. A record of MCB’s life both inside and outside Libya during that year, the work is about a young man going to war for the first time and his experience of that age-old desire to get as close as possible to a conflict in order to discover something about war and something about himself—perhaps a certain definition of life and death.

The caption for the image (see above) “The fighters do not want to be photographed; among other things they blame us for revealing location, resulting in airstrikes. They only want to be photographed when winning.”

Magarat Bourke White Research

White was experiencing problems while she was in India, these problems were her equipment was not working efficiently. the heat and feel of India damaged her two renaming flashbulbs and she had to abandon the time exposure shots she was capturing as her tripod froze as both the legs were stuck and she was having difficulty pulling them out of the sand

MINDMAP

Practise Shoot

This image is taken from an aerial shot as the camera is facing upwards and is getting the photographer really into the vibe of Christmas

This image has great lighting as using live view mode really brings the brightness and happiness of Christmas

This image has composition of reflections as the Christmas s lights reflect onto the building next to the lights and this image could really make somebody happy as looking at the lights and the decorations really raise the spirit of Christmas

This image symbolises loneliness and feeling sad at Christmas as there is one Christmas tree standing alone and there is not one person in the image it just seems like there's not much going on this Christmas and seems extremely quiet and seems quite depressing as normally people are so happy it is Christmas and families are decorating their tree or putting the lights up but this year people are not that bothered with what happens as this Coronavirus outbreak has stopped everyone meeting their family and friends and people are questioning when will everything be back to some type of normal again?. but the real truth is no one knows when we will be able to stop wearing masks, stop social distancing and when will be able to meet our family and friends again? Will things ever be the same again?

Evaluation

What did you do for this unit?

In this unit I learnt what photo journalism is, how tabloids and broad sheets are sometimes against different political parties, also how photos can bring so much emotion or feeling without you knowing what the image means

What do you think went well and what do you think you could improve?

I think the timing and organisation of my assignment was very good but i think that the layout of the blog could have been improved by creating blog posts instead of laying it out all presented one by one i shall use slideshow mode next time.

What new skills did you learn?

The similarities and differences between broadsheets and tabloids. also how a image can emotionally and mentally effect somebody by just glancing at one image

How will you use these new skills in the future?

These skills which I have learnt are very useful and handy to know and will be very useful in the future as i could teach others about what photo journalism is and how effective an image can really be
