Photographer- Photographers create visual images for an extraordinarily range of creative, technical and documentary purposes. As a professional photographer you'll normally work for a brief set by the client or employee, a few examples of content you could work on is wedding, family, fashion, architecture and landscape photography. A large number of professional photographers are actually self employed. You could find work with a variety of employers including creative businesses and photographic agencies.


Responsibilities

Some main responsibilities of being a photographer

  • working with clients to discuss the images they require and how they want to use them

  • carry out research and preparation for a shoot, to work in different locations and circumstances to get the right images

  • arrange still life objects, products, scenes, props and backgrounds.


Salary

Salaries can increase to anywhere from £25000 to 65000.The top end of the scale is typically for those who have a strong reputation and are highly sought- after, which takes years of experience.

Skills

I have already worked on using a digital camera and a non digital camera in photography level 2 and I have already worked on photoshop and an industry- standard software, I've also had the ability to work independently as well as working with clients and other businesses.




Press Photographer- As a press photographer you'll work with and take photographs of the news, current events and lifestyle stories. Your aim will be to capture the best images to document an event, tell a story or bring a message and support the printed word. The pictures are then reproduced in newspapers, magazines and online. Press photography is also known as editorial photography.


the main responsibilities of being a press photographer are


working closely with other people concerned with the story, such as journalists and picture editors

  • photograph events or personalities, and note details for photographic captions.

  • source freelance photographer for a job or existing photographs if pushed to a deadline.

Salary


  • starting salaries for a press photographer normally vary from £12,000 to £16,000.

  • with more experience salaries can rise to around £18,000 to £22,000.

  • Very experienced photographers can earn anywhere from £25,000 to £60,000.

Qualifications

to become a press photographer you will need to have a degree of

Film/Video editor- As a film/video editor, you'll manage material such as camera footage, dialogue, sound effects, graphic and special effects to produce a final film or video product. This is key role in the post production process and your skills can determine the quality and delivery of the finished result. You'll usually work closely with the director to achieve the desired results.


Responsibilities

your work as an editor will involve

  • assembling all raw footage, with camera shots either recorded or transferred onto video tapes in preparation for inputting uncut rushes and sounds

  • digitally cutting files to put together the sequence of the film and deciding what's usable

  • reordering and fine tuning the content to ensure the logical sequencing and smooth running of the film/video

Salary

  • starting salaries for assistant editors employed by a television or post production studio are in the region of £18,000 to £25,000.

  • With experience as a film or video editor, you could earn £21,000 to £35,000

  • At a senior level your earnings could potentially reach 37,000 to 70,00

Qualifications

You'll need a degree in specific subjects such as

  • communication and media studies

  • fine art or visual art

  • graphic design

  • photography, film or television

Skills

Fine Artist- as a fine artist you specialise in a medium and concentrate on a specific subject matter. You may also focus on a type of art such as landscapes, portrait and sometimes abstract art. Or you may work laterally across different subjects to explore ideas in unexcepted ways to make an original connection.


Responsibilities


As a fine artist you must


  • generate and develop artistic skills

  • sketch out and draw your ideas

  • apply for residencies and competitions

  • maintain a portfolio which will include a website


Salary


Salaries vary widely for fine artists and are dependent on their talent, experience and and the level of intricacy used in their work.


  • For emerging artists it's standard for them to have £1,000 or £2,000 if they are doing an MA

  • the increase of your salary could be 10 even 20% if your work is a major achievement
